George Nashak is President and CEO of Care For the Homeless, a New York City-based Federally Qualified Health Center that serves homeless and unstably housed families and individuals. In addition to providing primary and behavioral health services in shelters, drop-in centers, and soup kitchens, CFH operates a safe haven serving street homeless clients and three shelters for homeless women and men diagnosed with mental illness and other chronic medical conditions. CFH also maintains a strong commitment to participating in the public discussion about ending homelessness through its policy and advocacy efforts.
Prior to CFH, Mr. Nashak served as Executive Vice President of HELP USA, where he oversaw the operations of the agency’s $100 million portfolio of housing and programs targeted to homeless, formerly homeless and low-income families, individuals and veterans. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner for Adult Services at the New York City Department of Homeless Services where he was responsible for the single adult shelter system, the adult family shelter system, street homelessness services, and the re-housing of homeless adults. He began his tenure at NYC DHS by serving as Assistant Commissioner for Housing and Program Planning, a role in which he worked on the development and implementation of the New York/New York III Agreement and on other initiatives to promote permanency and to develop housing options for homeless people on the street and in shelters.
